Meriel Weston

Welcome

I have chosen some of my work for the website. Please have a look at my "Gallery" and I am interested in hearing your comments or queries.

Also, please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss buying a piece of my work.

What I do

I make embroideries to be hung as pictures. I paint people and animals but mostly I choose things that are strong on colour and pattern. I also enjoy "improvising" abstracts. Now and then I coach people studying art with some extra tuition.

What I do depends on what I enjoy the most and at the moment it is painting.

Study, qualifications and jobs

Winchester School of Art (now a faculty of Southampton University) Diploma in Art and Design (first class honours)

Great Yarmouth School of Art (a faculty of the University of East Anglia) Head of Textiles

Manchester Metropolitan University, lecturer in printed textiles

Freelance textile designer. Exhibiting at Texprint, London; Heimtextiel, Frankfurt.

St Gallen, Switzerland, Atelier Fick, studio textile designer.

I have teaching experience over a wide range including secondary schools and special classes for deaf children, but mostly I have taught art students at foundation and degree level.

Commissions and teaching

Commissions

I have painted pictures of friends' animals, for example a favourite horse and a special dog and wild animals for a wedding. I am happy to take on new commissions.

Teaching:

I do give coaching to students at all levels from beginners (including adult beginners) to art college entrants.

My work

My website's gallery section shows a small selection of work to give you an idea of what I do and I will be adding more.

Feel free to use my work to trigger new ideas for your own work and I hope you may even be inspired by something you see. But please email me and ask before reproducing any of the images of my pictures.
